On this day 26 May 1972 . 48yrs ago Alan had asked me did I want to go to Hampden Park as he was riding in a W/C qualifying Round . Well that didn,t take a lot of thinking about, Never been to Hampden Park only ever seen it on the telly. I remember getting there and the pits being on the 1st turn and the start right in front of the main stan it was huge, the pits were at the side of the main stand and a bit of a drop to the track. I helped Alan with his gear, bike etc and then he said we could go for a walk round the track again from down on the track it was huge no covered stand on turns 1 & 2, Sorry to say this is what made the day for me as we walked over the start line I noticed a groundsman and a German Shepard looking after the Turf and the dog had a ball so I said to Alan " won,t be a minute" and off I ran over to the groundsman " Can I borrow the dogs ball" "yes why says the groundsman "you,ll see" He tells the dog to dropp the ball and he was my chance straight over to the penalty spot ( YOU GUESSED IT ) I placed the ball down turned took 4 steps turn and took a short run and put the ball in the top corner just to make it feel real ran to the edge of the pitch with my arms in the air, shouted "Thanks" to the groundsman the dog got his ball back and Alan said Feel better now, 48 yrs ago today I scored a goal at Hampden Park, Wow what a day , as you can see ( not very good ) got about 6 autographs on the programme, sure the one along the edge is Bert Hawkins not sure about the rest are
