Two big(ish) meetings over the weekend in Poland but neither had any Aces rider in it.
Saturday night saw the IMME (Ekstraliga Riders Final) take place in Torun and, no surprise, it was won by Bartsoz Zmarzlik.
Sunday in Rzeszow saw the MPPK (Polish Team Pairs) Final take place. This featured Rzeszow, as hosts, Lublin, Gorzow, Czestochowa, Leszno, Torun and Krosno.
Leszno and Lublin both tied on 22 so a Run-Off was needed. Lublin went for Zmarzlik and Leszno elected Smektala. Zmarzlik won comfortably and gains his first piece of silverware away from hometown club Gorzow.

Opening round of fixtures in the Polish league took place over Saturday and Sunday with a sprinkling of Aces riders involved. Unfortunately not in action were Dan Bewley and Brady Kurtz with both their sides, Wroclaw and Rybnik, meetings postponed.
Liga 2 kicked off the action with a resounding home win for Rawicz over Daugavpils. Ryan Douglas got his Polish season off to a great start with a 5 ride maximum for the home side. Former Aces pair, Damian Drozdz and Scott Nicholls, scoring 23 points between them. Drozdz posted a 12+1 score with Nicholls posting 11. With the 2 Polish u21 riders rule relaxed in Liga 2 it enabled Rawicz to track Drew Kemp at reserve who chipped in with 3+1. One ex Ace in the Latvian side and not a bad debut for Steve Worrall scoring 8. Nick Morris top scored for them with 11. The meeting between Tarnow and Rzeszow was postponed due to bad weather.
Moving up to Liga 1 and one of the pre-season favourites, Bydgoszcz, were at home to Lodz. Bydgoszcz fought hard to take the win 49-41 with ex Ace Kenneth Bjerre topping the scorechart with 11+2. Recent Peter Craven Memorial finalist Niels-Kristian Iversen was the high point for Lodz with a score of 12. Current Ace Tom Brennan was named at 8 for Lodz but didn't manage to get a ride. In the other meeting of the day Gdansk edged a narrow 46-41 win over Ostrow. Ostrow suffered a blow with Tobiasz Musielak crashing in his opening ride and withdrawing from the meeting. Tobiasz himself has said he requires surgery and will miss a fair few weeks of racing, something the Sheffield fans will not want to hear. Michael Jepsen Jensen topped the charts for Gdansk with 13 whilst Polish veteran, and it's fair to call him that at this stage of his career, Grzegorz Walasek was Ostrows top scorer with 11+1.
Onto the Ekstraliga and Torun opened the league campaign with a 47-43 home win over Gorzow. A lot of eyes will be on Gorzow this season as they embark on life withhout Bartosz Zmarzlik after his winter switch to Lublin. 2022 Premiership winner Robert Lambert was top of the charts for Torun with 11+2 whilst recent Ipswich signing Emil Sayfutdinov finished on 11+1. Martin Vaculik top scored for Gorzow with 11+1 whilst winter signing Oskar Fajfer impressed on his Ekstraliga debut with a respectable 9. A short distance down the road from Torun, Grudiadz entertained Czestochowa in a thrilling meeting which ended in a 45-45 draw. The visitors were dealt a blow after the test laps with Kacper Woryna declaring himself unfit and pulling out of the meeting. Czestochowa raced into an early lead but couldn't really pull clear mainly thanks to home hero Nicki Pedersen who rattled off 6 straight wins for an 18 point maximum. Leon Madsen was the visitors highest scorer with 13. Former Ace Max Fricke scored 8+1 on his home debut for Grudziadz.
Onto Sunday and just the 2 meetings today with one in Liga 1 and the other in the Ekstraliga. First up was Poznan Vs Landshut which eventually got started after an hours delay to allow track work to take place. Meeting was fairly uneventful on the big, fast Poznan track with a lot of races being won by the rider making the quickest start. Young Dane Jonas Seifert-Salk was the home hero with 13 points whilst former Ace Antonio Lindback backed him up with 11+2. Current Ace Norick Blodorn, at reserve, scored 6+1 from 5 rides with former Ace Dimitri Berge top scoring for the German side with 14.
In the Ekstraliga, dark clouds loomed over the Alfred Smoczyk Stadium as Leszno hosted the leagues newcomers Krosno. A thrilling back and forth meeting between the 2 sides saw Leszno snatch victory with a last heat 5-1. Kolodziej top scored for the Bulls with 11+2 and was ably backed up by Grzegorz Zengota, making his return to Leszno, with a score of 10+1. Current Ace Jaimon Lidsey got off to a slow start with two last places before rattling off two wins, albeit one gifted by Lebedevs packing up on the last bend, to finish on 6. Jason Doyle, experiencing a few jeers on his return to Leszno, top scored for Krosno with 10 whilst Andzejs Lebedevs backed him up with 9. This would have been more had his mechanic fully fuelled the bike for Heat 10. Lebedevs fought a hard 2 laps to get in front only to run out of fuel on the final bends.
No news, as of yet, as to when the postponed fixtures will be rearranged.

Big one this as I've been away for a week so there's a lot to catch up on.
12th April saw Gorzow, minus the departed Zmarzlik, ease to a 52-38 win at home against Leszno in a challenge meeting. Home Number 1, Szymon Wozniak, top scoring with 12+1 whilst the returning Grzegorz Zengota rode to a 4 heat maximum. Jaimon rode at 5 for Leszno in this challenge meeting and scored 8 including 1 heat win.
13th April and another challenge, or sparring as they are known in Poland, meeting between Zielona Gora and defending Ekstraliga Champions Lublin. Shamek Pawlicki top scoring for the home side with 9 whilst Jaroslaw Hampel was the visitors top scorer with 13. Zmarzlik only took 3 rides and didn't drop a point.
15th April saw the "A" Final of the European Team Championship in Gdansk, Poland. Poland romped to 42 points with Sweden finishing second on 31. France narrowly squeezed out Latvia for third. Poland head into the final at Stralsun on the 22nd. Lindgren with 11 for Sweden, Lebedevs with 11 for Latvia, Wozniak with 12 for Poland and Bellego with 13 for France were the top scorers.
16th April and it was a crazy early start in Pardubice for the "B" Final of the European Team Championship. Start time was 9am local time, 8am UK time. GB only fielded 4 riders and 50% of those were Aces. Bewley top scored with 14 whilst Brennan chipped in 8. Denmark eased to victory on 49 and progress to the final. GB finish second on 33, Czech Republic on 32 and the Ukraine could only muster 6. GB go through to the final as best scoring runner up. Bewley 14, Rasmus Jensen/Frederik Jakobsen 13, Vaclav Milik 16 and Marko Levishyn 4 were top scorers for their respective nations. Meanwhile, in Poland, Opole defeated Tarnow 46-44 in Liga 2. Oskar Polis 13 and Rene Bach 14 top scored for their sides. Rzeszow hammered Pila 60-30 at home in the other Liga 2 meeting. Former Aces nemesis Jacob Thorssell top scored for Rzeszow with 11+1 whilst the Ace that never was, Peter Kildemand, scored 10+2. Dan Gilkes did well on his Polish league debut for Pila with 6+2. Just the one meeting in Liga 1 with Ostrow sneaking a 45-44 win over Rybnik. Veteran Grzegorz Walasek top scoring for Ostrow with 12 whilst a certain Brady Kurtz top scored for Rybnik with 15, just an opening heat last place dampening his scorecard. Aces reunited in Rybnik with Matej Zagar joining them but he could only muster 4 points from 4 rides. Onto the Ekstraliga we go and riders that had ridden in Pardubice in the morning were helicoptered to their meetings in the afternoon/evening, Dan Bewley being one of them. Wroclaw eased out Leszno 52-38. Dan showing no effects of riding earlier in the day and scored 11. Jaimon Lidsey scored 4 for Leszno. In the other meeting Lublin got their season off to a great start with a 49-41 win at Czestochowa. Business as usual for the defending World Champion as Zmarlik took 5 rides and won all 5. Mikkel Michelsen with 14 for Czestochowa.
18th April saw the U24 Ekstraliga kick off with 2 meetings. Leszno beat Wroclaw 59-30 whilst Krosno won 50-40 at Czestochowa. Current Colt James Pearson scored 4 for Leszno and former Colt Connor Bailey scored 5 for Wroclaw. Gorzow beat Grudziadz 51-39 in a rearranged Ekstraliga meeting later that evening. Szymon Wozniak and Anders Thomsen with 13+1 for Gorzow. Nicki Pedersen scoring 13 for Grudziadz with former Ace Max Fricke chipping in with 9.
Denmark kicked their league campaign off on the 19th with one meeting postponed, Slangerup Vs Fjelsted. In the other 2, Region Varde bested Grindsted 50-34 whilst Holsted won at Vojens 47-37. No current Aces in action but former Ace Kenneth Bjerre scored 10 for Grindsted.
Some more rearranged meetings in Poland on the 20th meant The Aces had to make do without Brady Kurtz. In Liga 2 Rzeszow won 53-37 away at Tarnow. Matic Ivacic with a one man show for the home side with 17 whilst former Ace Kevin Wolbert scored 11 for Rzeszow. A night to forget at home for Rybnik as they went down 52-38 to Zielona Gora. Zagar scored 1 from 2 rides. Kurtz could only manage 8 and didn't win a single heat. Pawlicki again for Falubaz was the highlight with 13.
Friday night, 21st April, saw just the one Ekstraliga meeting taking place. Gorzow were 10 down with 3 heats remaining but somehow pulled off a 45-45 draw. Danish duo Leon Madsen and Mikkel Michelsen led the way for Czestochowa with 12 and 10 respectively. Anders Thomsen put on a sterling show to hit 16 for Gorzow with good back up from Vaculik and Wozniak.
Finally, Saturday April 22nd and 3 meetings took place today. In Liga 1 Poznan narrowly went down 47-43 at home to Lodz. Young Dane, Jonas Seifert-Salk, with an impressive 15 for Poznan with former Ace Antonio Lindback backing him up with 11. Jakub Jamrog and Niels-Kristian Iversen with 11 each for the visitors. In Liga 2 Rawicz snatched a win from the grasp of Rzeszow with some heat wins in the final few heats. Drew Kemp having a great day at reserve for Rawicz with 10+1 whilst Kildemand topped the visitors scorechart with 11. Over in Stralsund, Germany the Grand Final of the European Team Championship took place. Poland eased to victory finishing the day on 49 with Denmark second on 35 and GB third on 22. Bewley the pick of the bunch for GB with 11 whilst his Aces colleague Tom Brennan scored 4. Zmarzlik and Woznik with 13 each for Poland, Michelsen 12 and Huckenbeck 8 were the top scorers for their respective nations. Our young German Norick Blodorn was the only other German rider to score and finished on 6. Erik Riss, Martin Smolinski and Erik Bachhuber all scored 0 from a total 9 rides between the three of them.

23rd April
Almost a full compliment of meetings in Poland on this day. Starting in Liga 2 with Pila, who have only recently returned to action after issues with track safety, who yet again seem to have struggled assembling a competitive side. Pila hosted Opole and went down 51-39 which is never good to see on home shale. Former Ace Artur Mroczka riding at 1 for Pila scored 10+1 whilst Swedish youngster Daniel Henderson was the top scorer with 12+1. Dan Gilkes, again, amonst the scorers for Pila with 4+1. Former British Champion Adam Ellis weighed in with 11+1 for the visitors but this would have been more had it not been for an exclusion in his fourth ride. Oskar Polis was flawless for the visitors with a 5 ride maximum. The other Liga 2 meeting was in Latvia as Daugavpils beat Gniezno 47-43. Another former Ace, and current asset, Steve Worrall top scored for the Latvian side with 12+1 whilst Leicesters Nick Morris had a day to forget with 2+1 including a retirement and a fall. Worralls Wolverhampton team-mate, Sam Masters, was the opposition today and scored 8+2 whilst former Poole man Kacper Gomolski top scored for the visitors with 10.
Onto Liga 1 and the first meeting of the day featured 2 former Aces and a current one. Bydgoszcz hosted Rybnik and ran out 53-37 winners. Former Ace Kenneth Bjerre, at 1 for Bydgoszcz, had an off day only mustering 3 points. Sheffields David Bellego topped the home scorers with 13 whilst young reserve, Wiktor Przyjemski, impressed again with 10. Rybnik had former Ace Matej Zagar at 1 and he didn't let them down top scoring with 12. Quite the atmosphere inside the stadium with the home fans jeering and whistling every time Zagar took to the track. Current Ace Brady Kurtz could only muster 5 for Rybnik. League favourites, Zielona Gora, headed to the coast to face Gdansk and duly ran out comfortable winners by a score of 53-37. Michael Jepsen Jensen the only home rider to offer any real resistance with a score of 11 whilst Przemyslaw Pawlickis good start to the season continued with 14+1 paid maximum. Former Ace Rohan Tungate scored 9+2 for the side from the Green Mountain. The final meeting of the day, in Germany, was delayed for over an hour to allow track work to be completed and the home side may have wished it had been called off instead as they, Landshut, went down 52-38 to Ostrow. Current Ace Norick Blodorn scored 4+1 for his home German side whilst the visitors had 3 riders all hit 11 but star of the show for them was the young Latvian, Francis Gusts, with a score of 13.
Onto the Ekstraliga and two teams tipped by many to be basement dwellers met as Grudziadz hosted Leszno. Leszno ran out 50-40 winners on the day but suffered the blow of losing Chris Holder with an injury. Holder is expected to be out for a couple of months. Nicki Pedersen was the home hero with 11 and somewhat backed up by Frederik Jakobsen with a score of 9. Former Ace Max Fricke had a day to forget and could only record 3 third places. Janusz Kolodziej, showing no signs of slowing down the older he gets, romped to a five ride maximum whilst former Swindon rider Grzegorz Zengota scored 11+2. Current Aces reserve Jaimon Lidsey scored 7+1. Final meeting of the day saw one of the favourites for the title, Wroclaw, make the trip to Torun. Fifteen heats later and they showed why they are favourites after a 52-38 victory. Ipswich's Emil Sayfutdinov top scoring for the home side with 10+1 whilst former Ace Robert Lambert scored 8+1. Artem Laguta showing the year off has done him no harm after scoring 14+1 whilst our current Number 1, Dan Bewley, again scored well with 11+2.

25th April
Busy time for young Brit Tom Brennan as he headed off to Italy for the Speedway European Championship qualifier at Terenzano, Italy. Practice was initally cancelled after rain but was then pushed back to later in the day to allow riders to practice before the start of the meeting. Tom had some rotten luck as he missed out on qualification by a single point but was excluded in his third ride, wrongfully according to Tom himself, which cost him dearly.
Grzegorz Zengota, Jan Kvech, Martin Smolinski and Mads Hansen were the 4 who qualified for the Challenge meeting next month in Hungary. Current Aces asset Richie Worrall finished a point adrift of Tom on 8.
Two U24 Ekstraliga meetings held as well and one featuring a current Belle Vue Colt. One to forget for Sam Hagon though as Czestochowa took a hammering, 62-28, away to Gorzow. Sam could only contribute 2 points from 4 rides. The other meeting saw Ostrow take a 47-43 win over Grudziadz. Former Colt Leon Flint scored 5+2 for Ostrow. Grudziadzs Number 1, Patrick Baek, was a participant at one of the Belle Vue track days back in 2022.

26th April
Four Polish final qualifiers today and with no Poles in the Aces line up zero interest from an Aces standpoint. Young Wroclaw reserve, Bartlomiej Kowalski, took the spoils in Opole with a 15 point maximum. Kacper Woryna finished second on 14. These 2 were joined by Hubert Legowik and Oskar Fajfer as the other qualifiers. In Rybnik, Mateusz Cierniak, Grzegorz Zengota, Wiktor Lampart and Krzysztof Buczkowski were the qualifiers. Wiktor Przyjemski, Szymon Wozniak, Adrian Gala and Jaroslaw Hampel qualified from Bydgoszcz whilst Wiktor Jasinski, Marcin Nowak, Jakub Miskowiak and Piotr Pawlicki qualified from Rawicz. These 16 will contest a further meeting to determine who joins Zmarzlik, Janowski and Dudek in the Final.
Over in Denmark and Round 2 of their league campaign was raced. One meeting bit the dust with Holsted falling foul of the weather. Grindsted lost 46-38 at home to Vojens, otherwise known as Sønderjylland Elite Speedway. Night to forget for former Ace Kenneth Bjerre as he could only muster 4+1 on his home track. Patrick Hansen scoring 15 for Grindsted with Mads Hansen scoring paid 17 (14+3) for Vojens. In the other meeting, Fjelsted and Esbjerg raced to a 42-42 draw (only 14 heats in Danish League speedway). Sheffields Adam Ellis top scoring with 13 for Fjelsted with Niels-Kristian Iversen scoring 12+1 for Esbjerg.

27th April
2 re-arranged Ekstraliga meetings today and one of those must be considered a dress rehearsal for the final with Lublin hosting Wroclaw. Sadly, the Lublin track staff didn't get the memo and served up a track not conducive to racing. Zmarzlik ran a last in the Ekstraliga for the first time in almost 5 years and posted his lowest score in the league since 2015. Wroclaw ran out 46-44 winners with Woffinden, Janowski and Piotr Pawlicki all scoring 10. Bewley scored 5 for Wroclaw. Fredrik Lindgren top scored for Lublin with 11 and Kubera chipped in with 10. Zmarzlik ended the night on 7.
Earlier in the day and history was made in Krosno as they took to their own shale for the first time in the Ekstraliga. The fans didn't leave disappointed either with the Wolves beating Torun 50-40. Jason Doyle, 12, Krzysztof Kasprzak, 11+2, top scored for the home side. Sayfutdinov a bit of a one man show for Torun with 16+1.

28th April
A return to Leszno for Emil Sayfutdinov, who was treated better by the home fans than Jason Doyle was a couple of weeks back, but it was another defeat for his Torun side on the road as they went down 49-41. Another sterling effort from Emil with another score of 16. A good night for the Aces reserve, Jaimon Lidsey, with 10.
Another return in Gorzow as Zmarzlik comes back with his Lublin side. A good night for Bartosz with a 14+1 paid maximum in a 48-41 win for Lublin. Martin Vaculik top scoring for the home side with 11.

29th April
A second SEC Qualifier in Daugavpils today with interest from two British Riders. Sadly, both Steve Worrall and Adam Ellis, failed to qualify. Ellis crashed in his fourth ride and has a took a lot of skin off one of his hands. Antonio Lindback, Kacper Woryna, Andreas Lyager and Frederik Jakobsen were the 4 who qualified for the Challenge meeting. Aces young German Norick Blodorn finished the meeting on 9.
Just one league meeting in Poland today with Tarnow thrashing Pila 59-31. Rene Bach, formerly of Workington, scoring 14+1 for Tarnow whilst former Ace Artur Mroczka weighed in with 10 for Pila.

30th April
6 meetings across all 3 divisions in Poland today.
Starting in Liga 2, title favourites Rzeszow hammered Daugavpils 62-27 on home shale. The Ace that never was, Peter Kildemand, and the kid who thrilled us all during the Speedway Of Nations, Phillip Hellstrom-Bangs, both scored 11. Former Ace Steve Worrall scored 5 for the side from Latvia. The second Liga 2 meeting saw Opole comfortably defeat Rawicz 54-35. Oskar Polis hitting a 5 ride max for Opole whilst ex-Ace Hans Andersen scored 8 for Rawicz. Drew Kemp, currently still without a UK club, scored 4+1 from reserve from Rawicz.
Moving up a league and Lodz defeated Landshut 50-40 at home. Timo Lahti top scoring for the Eagles (Lodz) with 12+2 whilst former Ace Dimitri Berge scored 14+1 from 6 rides for the German side. Current Ace Norick Blodorn scored 6 for Landshut. Title favourites Zielona Gora carried their winning streak with a 50-40 home defeat of Bydgoszcz. Przemyslaw Pawlicki great start to the season continued with a score of 13 whilst former Ace Kenneth Bjerre scored 11 for Bydgoszcz. Bydgoszcz's top scorer, again, was the 17 year old junior Wiktor Przyjemski with 12+1.
Onto the Ekstraliga and Wroclaw edged out Czestochowa 46-44 in a tense meeting at the Olympic Stadium. Aces No. 1 Dan Bewley and fellow GP Rider, Maciej Janowski, both top scored for Wroclaw with 11. Maksym Drabik scored 13+1 on his return to his former home track. Newcomers Krosno made it two out of two at home defeating Grudziadz, and planting them bottom of the league, 49-41. A good day for Vaclav Milik, riding at No.1, with a score of 13+1. Former Ace Max Fricke was the visitors best performer with a score of 9 whilst it was also good to see a return to track for Vadim Tarasenko. The Russian was initially banned after the invasion of Ukraine but has since undergone tests determined by the PZM, along with Laguta and Sayfutdinov, to be allowed to ride.

1st May
The two final Speedway European Championship qualifiers took place today in Mureck and Debrecen. Antti Vuolas, Michael Jepsen Jensen, Timo Lahti and Dimitri Berge were the qualifiers from Mureck with Szymon Wozniak, Andzejs Lebedevs, Jacob Thorssell and Niels-Kristian Iversen qualifying from Debrecen. These 8 will contest the SEC Challenge meeting later in the month.
The first ever PZM Foundation cup took place in Poznan and was easily won by the Liga 1&2 Stars. They ran out 64-26 winners on the big, wide Poznan circuit. Wiktor Lampart was the only Poznan rider to offer any resistance with a score of 9. Robert Chmiel with 14+1, from 5 rides, was the top scorer for the Stars side.
The Silver Helmet final was held in Czestochowa. This is the meeting for the Junior riders in Poland and does carry a lot of prestige though, sadly, a lot of the times these meetings are held in near empty stadia. Today was no exception with barely anyone in the crowd at Czestochowa. Wroclaw's Bartlomiej Kowalski won the meeting on 13 points with the Leszno Junior Damian Ratajczak in second after a run off with Kacper Pludra of Grudziadz. Both riders had finished on 11 points.
